Getting Started

Meditating is something thatโ€™s always been important for me. Iโ€™ve been trying to inculcate in my everyday life ever since I was 13 years old. Itโ€™s only fair to dedicate an entire page and keep updating it.

I am not entirely sure what motivated the 13-year-old me to meditate, but I do remember striving for calmness and being inspired by Mr. Cool โ€“ Mahender Singh Dhoni. My understanding of meditation, calmness, and self-awareness has drastically evolved since I started this journey, and I hope this information can help a fellow beginner.

For a long time, I saw meditation as a fix to all my problems โ€“ procrastination, cravings, and bad habits.

While mindfulness can help you make better decisions, building and maintaining a habit requires much more. There is no magic pill to self-improvement, only consistent effort and a having fun during the journey.

While I cannot define what meditating is since I am but a novice, I do have a few thoughts around it. When I was a kid, meditating meant having a singular focus on my breath and being ardent about it. In reality, it is about being more present and gently bringing your focus back. While I like to practice breath-work, your body may better attune to hearfulness, imagery or other forms of meditation.

The right guidance and knowledge can very well be the difference between someone sticking to meditation or dropping it. There is a steep learning curve that is best approached gradually and with the knowledge of how our brains function.ย

I am grateful to have been one of the early adopters of Headspace when it was just launched and free to use. Their guided meditations helped me understand what meditation is, navigate common challenges, and inculcate mindfulness in my daily life. I recommend finding a coach, trying a meditation app, and taking time to explore different styles before choosing what works best for you. Here are a few that Iโ€™ve personally used: Iโ€™ve personally used:
